Third world countries manifest the need to empower their SME sectors in order to provide them with a line of defense which will guard their economies against the inevitable disadvantages of globalization.
The Philippines, being a third world country, relies primarily on its SME sector as the backbone of its economy. Government projects and advocacies such as the "Medium Term Development Plan" (2004-2010) and "Sulong Pinoy", an SME action agenda launched by the DTI already supported this realization. It is one way of empowering SMEs if we could provide them with information systems which will support them in their day-to-day transactions and business processes. With this research, the author envisions to be able to encourage more Filipinos to engage in entrepreneurial ventures in order to support economic growth, thus reducing poverty.
